Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine together comprise a complete holistic approach that can be used to diagnose and improve most conditions. This ancient medical system focuses on the overall health of the individual rather than the treatment of a specific disease, with sessions being tailored towards a patient’s detailed history, place of birth and how the condition they have been diagnosed with is manifesting from a Traditional Chinese Medical perspective.
Acupuncture uses the body's pulse and the tongue as its methods of diagnosis, with conditions being addressed by inserting fine needles into specific points in the body to access energetic meridians. The needles are very fine so there is no pain, and they act on particular organs to help enhance the natural healing of the body by removing blockages and allowing free energetic flow.
An Acupuncture session lasts for 1 hour and costs £90
Chinese Herbal Medicine uses extracts from roots, branches and flowers which have been applied as medicines for thousands of years. They are usually taken in tea form, with prescriptions sometimes being made that use several herbs, working together to treat the whole body and mind and harmonise the energies of the body. Where needed, Chinese Herbal Medicine would complement and enhance Acupuncture treatment.
A herbal Medicine appointment lasts for 30 minutes and costs £60. The herbs are prepared and dispatched to your address via Royal Mail. The price of the herbs is not included and depend on the ingredients and length of treatment.
Chinese Medicine has a long history in the East for improving the body's ability to address many conditions. Because the individual is seen as a whole with no separation between the physical body, the mind and the emotions, many emotional imbalances leading to depression, anxiety or insomnia can be addressed by balancing the body without having to resort to drugs.
Modern research is proving what acupuncturists have known for centuries. NICE (the National Institute For Clinical Excellence) recently released guidelines on how acupuncture could be used by the NHS.
The new Advertising Standards Association rules http://www.asa.org.uk/ do not allow us to say which conditions we treat. Please contact us about your condition and will call you and discuss your condition further.
Mr B came to see me in the Autumn. Both his shoulders were completely frozen to the point that the Physiotherapist could not work on him.
I used cupping on his back followed by acupuncture and the burning of moxa.
By the 4th session, B was able to lift his arms above his head and could begin his sessions with the physio.
The physiotherapist was so impressed with the results that went on to learn cupping.
B is now completely free of pain after 4 months of treatment and we are now addressing his overall wellbeing to prevent this happening again.
A research project was carried out by Professor Atherton, Dr Guang Xu and Phytofarm some years ago on the use of Chinese Medicine for eczema and psoriasis. As a result of that study the Royal Free Hospital in North London now has a Chinese Herbalist as part of its dermatology department. Chinese Medicine has hundreds of years of proven effectivity in treating skin disease. I completed a post graduate diploma in Dermatology to enhance my treatments of the skin.
I have a particular interest in using Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in relation to fertility, in conjunction with IVF and for support during pregnancy. To find out more, please click here.
“I had been struggling with my fertility for about a year and had been diagnosed with adenomyosis. My local NHS hospital wanted to operate to laser suspected endometriosis as they assumed this was the reason for my infertility. I had been charting my cycles for about 6 months and knew my luteal phase was too short; the hospital weren't interested in that information at all. I decided to schedule the operation for 3 months time and to try Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture in the mean time thanks to finding information about Ana Maria.
I'm so glad I did! Ana Maria took my concerns about my luteal phase very seriously and actually wanted copies of my charts! I continued to chart my cycle along with taking the herbs prescribed and having weekly acupuncture sessions. The next months chart showed a significantly longer luteal phase and the month after that I fell pregnant! When the letter from the hospital arrived, reminding me about the operation, I had completely forgotten it was due and took great pleasure in telling them I didn't need it!
I went on to have a lovely baby boy and 3 years later, a baby girl. Thank you so much for helping me. I know now that had I gone with the advice of my doctor my journey would have been a lot longer and I may never have succeeded in getting pregnant. Libby
